Feeling a bit chilly? What if you could spend winter in Dubai like one of our recent guests?

Did you know that 25% of our guests decide to reboot their lives and move into a Blueground just for a change of scenery? Escaping the cold is a powerful motivation for some, while others head to cities like Denver and Zurich to take advantage of amazing winter sports in their new backyards.

Content creator Sheen Gurrib is currently enjoying the sunshine and warm temperatures in Dubai, where she has been living in a Blueground apartment.

We caught up with Sheen to find out all about her favorite things to do in her adopted city and her groundbreaking work empowering the next generation of women leaders.

An alumnae of both Cambridge and Oxford, Sheen recently moved to Dubai for a new career opportunity. “I was looking for a job after completing my PhD and having been in the UK for the past 8 years, it was time for a change,” she said.

“Having heard of the buzzing lifestyle of Dubai and the year-round sun, I decided to give it a go, and I am now here for a new job.”

Sheen decided on a flexible lease with Blueground instead of a more traditional rental.

“Being new to Dubai, and wanting to be flexible with life plans, I did not want to invest in buying furniture or the headache of dealing with landlords — so I was looking for furnished places,” she said.

“When I saw Blueground apartments’ decor I was blown away, and immediately knew I wanted to live in one of those flats, especially as I needed nice backgrounds for my filming, which was readily available in the flats.”

In addition to digging the design of her lovely Dubai apartment, Sheen is thrilled with the climate of her new hometown.

“I love the sunny winter in Dubai. I moved in August when it was scorching heat, so I am over the moon that I can now walk outdoors and have dinner outside.”

“I’ve had all my friends and family visit so it has been a pretty wonderful winter!”

Living in a Blueground apartment is also an advantage for Sheen’s work as a content creator. She has been shooting videos for her YouTube channel in her home.

“Having a lot of tech equipment, it’s great to have so much space in the flat such that I do not need to pack everything away in between shooting days.” Her lovely one-bedroom space has been an ideal backdrop for her videos.

“I have been filming from the floor, in the bedroom, the kitchen, and at the dining table, it has been pretty flexible and provided me with so many options!”

When Sheen isn’t busy with work or her YouTube channel, she is out and about exploring Dubai. “I really love the beach so if I’m not swimming, I am usually horseback riding in the desert or doing my pottery class!” she said.

Even with all of the amazing experiences she’s had since moving to Dubai last year, Sheen is still ready to take on more. “I’ve been trying to get started with some fitness classes too, but am still too lazy for that!”

We’re so proud to host world explorers like Sheen in our furnished apartments. Are you interested in ditching your year-long lease and embracing flexible living? Find out more about the Blueground experience.
