strolling through berlin

Germany’s capital and largest city is one of Europe’s most magical cities — it’s no wonder that millions of people visit each year. Whether you’re a history buff who wants to see the Berlin Wall up close and personal or an art lover seeking bliss in one of the city’s museums, there is so much to see and do in Berlin.

If you’re relocating to Berlin rather than just visiting, you owe it to yourself to consider a turnkey Blueground home. Every one of our furnished apartments is purposefully designed to help our guests feel at home right away.

All of our custom spaces deliver supreme comfort and style — not to mention stocked kitchens, fast Wi-Fi, and thoughtful extras.

When you skip the apartment search and book a flexible rental, you can spend your first weekend in town exploring Berlin rather than stressing about the details of your living situation.

After all, you didn’t move to Germany to scan through the classified ads. Ready for an adventure? Here are just a few of our favorite things to do in Berlin.

Friday: Dinner and a movie

Now that you have arrived (in style!) spend your first night in town relaxing in your new home. If you love to cook, spend tonight lovingly preparing yourself dinner.

Want to leave the cooking to someone else?

Download Lieferando, one of Berlin’s top food delivery apps, and order up whatever you’re craving. Either way, you can pour a glass of wine and enjoy the view before settling down for a movie night.

There are so many great movies set in Berlin that you can’t go wrong. If you love history, Florian von Donnermarck’s Oscar-winning drama The Lives of Others will be right up your alley. Set during the Cold War, the film explores the complicated dynamic between a talented but naive East German playwright and the Stasi agent who is assigned to monitor his activities during the 1980s.

In addition to some incredible drama, the film serves up some beautiful shots of Berlin. You will see Gedenkstätte Hohenschönhausen, a former Stasi prison that is now a museum, as well as the iconic Hebbel Theater and famous Karl-Marx-Allee.

There is also a suspenseful scene at Schönholzer Heide, a Soviet War Memorial.

Saturday: Museum spree

Get ready for an incredible day of culture out and about in the city. It’s easy to visit several museums in a single go on Berlin’s Museum Island, where five different institutions are clustered together in the middle of the Spree River.

This UNESCO World Heritage Site has a little something for everyone. The stately Altes Museum is filled with ancient curiosities and is perfect for a history lover. The Alte Nationalgalerie is devoted to 19th-century art, while the nearby Bode-Museum focuses on European sculpture from medieval times to the Renaissance.

There’s also the Neues Museum, which houses a world-famous bust of the Egyptian ruler Nefertiti and the Pergamonmuseum, another storehouse for treasures from the ancient world.

Whichever museum you choose, you won’t be disappointed. Just be sure to bring proof of vaccination to ensure prompt admission.

Sunday: Retail therapy

Are you ready to shop?

Even if you’re only up for window shopping, you won’t want to miss Berlin’s unique retail scene.

Head to tony Charlottenburg to marvel at the goods for sale along Kurfürstendamm and the Tauentzienstrasse, two of the city’s chicest shopping arteries.

The neighborhood is also home to KaDeWe, an absolutely gigantic department store.

For more than a hundred years, this one-of-a-kind retail emporium has delighted Berliners with its amazing selection of high-quality goods. It’s so massive, in fact, that it has its very own food hall!

Pick up something delicious and head back to your apartment to watch the sunset, content that you have made the most of your first weekend in Berlin!

If you have already experienced flexible living in one of Blueground’s turnkey furnished apartments, you know why people are giving up on year-long leases.

But if you’re still renting the old-fashioned way, you owe it to yourself to find out more about the Blueground experience.
