Hello, summer! We’ve missed you. Now that the season of sun, sand, and splashing is back, we’re here to share nine must-visit destinations to satisfy your need for H2O.

What’s your thing? Swimming? Kayaking? Sunbathing? No matter what speaks to you, our list has it all.

And after a long day in the sun, you’ll love staying in a fully equipped Blueground apartment.

Can’t get enough water-based fun?

Don’t worry. Many of our homes offer on-site pool access in select buildings.

Ready to beat the heat and cool off?

Here are some of the best spots to do it in Blueground cities.

1. Lady Bird Lake | Austin, Texas

Lady Bird Lake Austin

Named in honor of former First Lady, Claudia Alta “Lady Bird” Johnson, this scenic 468-acre reservoir on the Colorado River cuts through downtown Austin. It’s a local favorite for outdoor recreation.

How would you like to explore the lake? Kayak? Canoe? Stand up paddleboard?

You can rent a few different kinds of watercraft to suit your style.

Lady Bird Lake is an ideal destination whether you’re having an adventure with your kids, hanging with a large group of friends, or on a date. Just keep in mind that swimming in the lake isn’t allowed due to hazards under the water’s surface.

2. Strandbad Gänsehäufel | Vienna, Austria

An island in Vienna? That’s right! Strandbad Gänsehäufel is a tiny piece of land surrounded by the Danube River.

It’s been transformed into a riverside park and a favorite summer hangout for locals. Swim in the cool water or enjoy fun activities like tennis, volleyball, mini-golf, and a climbing area.

There’s a small entrance fee and you can rent anything you may be missing, from towels to aquatic toys.

3. Redondo Beach | Los Angeles, California

Redondo Beach and pier

There are so many beaches around Los Angeles to choose from.

Luckily, you can’t go wrong. Redondo Beach is a popular pick because of its endless possibilities.

For active types, you can go surfing, beachcombing, rent stand up paddleboards and kayaks, or join a beach volleyball game.

Even better? Redondo Beach is easy to access by riding to the final stop of the Metro Green Line train system.

4. Water World | Denver, Colorado

No, you won’t see Kevin Costner at this enormous waterpark. Bummer, we know.

But you will find almost 40 attractions

One of the best waterparks in the US, Water World is only 20 minutes north of downtown Denver. It features a variety or rides, including eight-across slide races, a pitch-black tube, and more.

General admission to this summer hotspot is $49.99 but less for children and seniors and free for kids under 40″ in height.

5. Rhine River | Basel, Switzerland

Rhine River in Basel

Have you ever journeyed down a lazy river?

Well, floating on the Rhine takes it to the next level. And it’s a one-of-a-kind way to view Basel’s picture-perfect Old Town.

While the Rhine is a chilly 12 °C (53 °F), swimming in the river is a treasured summer pastime of residents, especially on warm summer days. Most people get in the water near the Museum Tinguely and let the current take them downstream to the Johanniter Bridge for about 30 minutes.

Wondering what to do with your phone, wallet, and keys to your Blueground apartment?

Not to worry! Just get a Wickelfisch bag for your belongings. This bright bag keeps your items dry and acts as a float, too.

You’ll enjoy lots of space to swim, with red buoys designating the boat-free swimming area.

And if you want a shorter swim, there are several opportunities to exit at concrete steps along the water’s edge.

Please note: This activity is for strong swimmers only. There are no lifeguards, and swimmers enter at their own risk.

6. Lummus Park Beach | Miami, Florida

Lummus Park Beach

When you imagine the quintessential Miami beach, this is it. Located in the South Beach neighborhood, Lummus Park Beach is an Instagram-worthy paradise.

No matter your speed, this urban oasis has you covered. You can swim, bodyboard, or just soak up the sunshine.

Plus, there are places to rent skates or a bike as well as outdoor gym areas where you can break a sweat.

Love people-watching? There’s no better spot.

And don’t be surprised if you see a few celebrities.

7. Aquaventure Waterpark | Dubai, UAE

Aquaventure Waterpark Dubai

If bigger is better, Aquaventure Waterpark may be the best. It’s home to over 105 slides, attractions, and experiences, including the world’s widest water slide, the Middle East’s longest river ride, and the region’s longest zip line.

For those that want to take it easy, there’s a 1-kilometer-long private beach.

Or you can hand-feed rays — an unforgettable experience.

Because it’s one of the largest waterparks in the world, you’ll probably need more than a day there.

Plus, there’s so much more to do in Dubai! Consider staying for a month or longer in a fully furnished Blueground apartment

8. Lake Michigan | Chicago, Illinois

Chicago Lake Michigan

The Windy City may be known for deep-dish pizza, architecture, and famous sports venues, but its ties to Lake Michigan shouldn’t be forgotten.

Discover lots of places to rent kayaks, stand up paddleboards, or jet skis along the city’s shoreline.

Or take a dip in the refreshing waters at one of Chicago’s many beaches, such as North Avenue Beach, Oak Street Beach, or 31st Street Beach.

9. Barceloneta Beach | Barcelona, Spain

Barceloneta Beach

Beloved for its sandy beaches and people-watching opportunities, Barceloneta Beach is Barcelona’s most famous (and popular) beach.

This lively spot is located in the Ciutat Vella district and features lifeguards, lounge chairs, showers, and never-ending entertainment. Everything you need for a fantastic time!

After playing beach volleyball, beach tennis, or table tennis, you can check out fresh tapas restaurants and countless bars along the boardwalk.

Dive into a new way of living!

Who says you can’t experience all of these water-centric spots? With Blueground, you have the flexibility, comfort, and convenience to live all over the globe.
